Graduate Opportunities (Engineer, Consultant or Technician)

We are by no means biased but we think Create would be a fantastic start to your career as a fully fledged engineer, consultant or technician and we would be delighted to introduce you to our people and business. If you’re at university and looking for a placement, or you’ve just graduated and are looking at taking your first step into construction, we want to talk to you.

We have built our business to nurture and develop the next generation, and as our industry faces a looming talent crisis, it is more important than ever to focus on the young people. That’s why we will do everything in our power to ensure that your career gets off to the right start. By joining our team, you will get the opportunity to work on a range of fantastic projects, varying in shape and size. Whether that’s supporting the construction of nationally significant infrastructure and helping to meet the UK’s housing shortage, or ensuring a private client’s house gets built, you will get the opportunity to develop a broad range of expertise with us.

In return for your assistance and skills, we will provide training and development plans and continue to invest in you throughout your career with us, whether that’s chartership, training or mentoring. Together we can increase your potential, our commercial effectiveness, and build a robust and inclusive company culture, that makes a positive contribution to our world and local communities.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Our graduates and trainees get to work on a range of projects and are given the opportunity to work with multiple teams to get a feel for the kind of work they enjoy. Once they have found a discipline they are comfortable with, they are given a key point of contact or mentor who will take full responsibility for ensuring they are integrated into the business and chosen team.

All graduates and trainees will be guided through smaller projects to begin with, learning how to handle key elements such as finances, programme management, and communication with different members of the design team, internal and externally. Time will also be spent on site, where services such as site investigations and on-site monitoring will be carried out under guidance. Ultimately, by the end of their first year, our graduates and trainees should find themselves capable of carrying out various technical services remotely, either working alone or as part of a wider team.

We will offer a transparent progression path to all graduates and trainees, proactively encouraging them to grow and develop their careers with us. Many of our team have stayed with us a long time, and we hope that future graduates and trainees continue to do so.

“I started at Create in November 2011 as a Graduate Hydrologist and have progressively worked through the ranks over the past 11 years. I was exposed to a wide variety of tasks and projects at an early stage, which enabled me to expand my knowledge, confidence and ability to solve problems. After seven years, I was in position to submit an application for Chartered status, which I did with the full support of my colleagues and business. In 2021 I was promoted to the role of Technical Director. I am now responsible for managing our team of flood risk consultants, I also play a crucial role within the senior leadership team helping to define overall business operations and commercial strategy.”

Graham Sinclair, Technical Director (Water & Flood Risk)
